Keep California Beautiful (KCB) Vision Statement: California - The most beautiful and cleanest state in the nation.
KCB Mission: Working together to ignite individuals, state and local governments, communities, and corporate responsibility through strategic initiatives and volunteer action to preserve and protect California's beautiful natural resources for generations to come.
KCB Core Values: "Efforts of One Result in the Power of Many" Personal Responsibility, Leadership, Partnerships, Education, and Volunteer Action: all leading to environmental awareness and action that will sustain our state's natural environment.
Three Guiding Principles:
1. Education: Prevention, resources, programs & tools, and legislation to support positive progress
2. Efforts: Promote volunteer efforts -- working together
3. Endorse Enforcement: Vital to success -- consequences and legislation to support positive progress
Our Goals: Educate and Communicate to Inspire Action
KCB annually provides resources and support to more than 200 California communities, focusing on cleanup, beautification and enhancement projects. Over the past 18 years during each spring, when the Great American CleanupTM (GAC) is held, KCB and its partner programs have sponsored over 10,403 events, involving 551,557+ volunteers, collecting over 22,000,534 pounds of litter and trash from California highways, public lands, waterways, and beaches.
During the 2008 GAC, our community members contributed over 211,974.5 volunteer hours; removing over 2,156,332 pounds of litter and debris from California's environment along 3,463 miles of roadways, 256 miles of waterways, 86.5 miles of trails, 27.5 miles of railroad tracks and 711 acres of parks. The volunteer efforts of KCB program partners saved the state and local governments of California an estimated $4,657,079.70 in labor while completing community improvement projects.
KEY CURRENT PROGRAMS
Environmental Leadership
KCB serves California's citizens, communities, government agencies, and businesses by participating on a Statewide Anti-Litter Interagency Task Force, Statewide Illegal Dumping and Enforcement Task Force, and National Marine Debris Task Force.
Supporting Cleanup and Beautification Efforts
KCB believes in the power of individuals to make positive change for the betterment of their communities. KCB and its partnerships mobilize thousands of volunteers to participate in recycling, cleanup and beautification events statewide. Year round, KCB provides trash and recycling bags, seeds, hand sanitizer, gloves and donated incentives to volunteers. During the three month long Great American CleanupTM (GAC), KCB supports approximately 200 communities.
Proud Community Program
KCB acts as the State Leader for the Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Local Affiliate Program, providing support for the 13 KAB Local Affiliates and 60 Proud Community (PC) Program members. The PC Program is the primary method for communities to become involved with KCB. KCB provides members with resources, help in mobilizing volunteers and workshops to support their efforts in combating litter, illegal dumping and graffiti one city at a time. The Proud Community Program partner organizations and member cities gain from the networking opportunities, expertise, knowledge, and proven experience that each of these cities bring to the program.
Public/Private Partnerships to Enhance Recycling
A diverse group of industry representatives, federal and state government officials and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) joined forces to explore partnerships to increase source reduction and recycling:
Cell Phone Recycling Partnership
Reusable Bag Partnership
Recycling for CA State Parks Partnership
Take It Back Partnership
Trash and Car Litter Bag Partnership
